EPS Cutting Machine Horizontal cut introduction
The horizontal cut is the section of an EPS cutting machine that slices a block into sheets of a set thickness. It is where most of a line’s output is actually produced, and it is also where the biggest time saving is available — not from cutting faster, but from setting the wires faster.
Automatic wire setting (patented)
Our horizontal cutting unit uses an automatic wire setting system covered by Chinese patent ZL2015 2 0751731.X. The whole frame is driven by a PLC and operated from a touch screen:
- Up to 51 wires can be installed on the frame
- Full setting in about 3 minutes, compared with roughly 60 minutes for two operators working manually
- Thickness tolerance of 0.25 mm across the whole frame
For a plant that changes thickness several times a shift, that is the difference between a line that earns money and a line that spends its hours being adjusted.
The five parts that matter on this unit
- Automatic wire setting — positions every wire at once, from the touch screen
- Touch screen — stores thickness programmes so repeat orders need no re-measuring
- Adjustable presser roller — holds the block steady and stops it lifting as the wires enter
- Oscillation cut motor — drives the 50 mm vibrating stroke that lowers cutting resistance and extends wire life
- Wire end cooling blower — cools the wire ends, the point where heat concentrates and breakage usually starts
Why wire end cooling is not a detail
On a wide frame the wire ends sit closest to the machine structure and receive the least airflow, so they run hotter than the middle of the wire. Most wire breaks start there. A dedicated blower at each end removes that weak point and noticeably reduces unplanned stops.
Specifying a horizontal cutting unit
Ask three questions before buying: how many wires can the frame carry at your maximum block width, how long does a full thickness change take, and what thickness tolerance is guaranteed — not typical, guaranteed.
