How Hot-Wire Cutting Works
A cutting wire heated by electric current glides through the polystyrene foam and melts a clean path along the cut line. Wire temperature and cutting speed are matched, so the cut surface stays smooth, closed and free of torn beads. For thick blocks or premium surface quality, an oscillating (vibrating) wire option is available — the vibration continuously removes melting residue from the cut and keeps the wire cool.
